Day 2

Havana - Travelling a lo Cubano

It is a well-known fact that Cuba has been struggling with urban and national public transport for years. Today we will show you how Cubans cope with this challenge. Kick off your day hopping on a bicitaxi to contemplate the city waking up. Just like many Cubans who travel from one side of Old Havana to the other, jump into the rickshaw-like vehicles and let yourself be chauffeured from your accommodation through the alleyways to the Plaza de la Catedral. Once in Old Havana, discover the colonial past of the city in a walking tour of its four main squares. Give the midday heat a miss with a good lunch, after which you will be taken to the Parque Central by horse-drawn carriage. To make the picture perfect, tens of classic cars taxiing around set up the scene. Get comfortable on the back seat of one of those and enjoy a ride through the modern part of Havana. Get to know the districts of Vedado - the garden of Havana - and the villa district of Miramar. Last but not least, the ride along the famous Malecón will most certainly leave you enchanted.

Experience tradition. Board Cuba's only still operating electric train, already in use for 100 years. Join a lively party on board with Cuban rhythms and have a day to remember. Head to the small village of Hershey to follow in the footsteps of the pioneer Milton Hershey. Walk through the semi-abandoned small town that was once the chocolate mogul's flagship. Let yourself be carried back by memories of the golden age of sugar over a freshly squeezed sugar cane juice, called ''guarapo''.
